K-Pop’s Blackpink features in latest NBC Promo for 2018 Olympic Winter Games

In it's lasted promotional spot for NBC’s broadcast of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games, former Olympian and Olympic commentator Johnny Weir promotes the new Google Home and K-Pop with a simple instruction: "Hey Google, play my K-pop playlist!”

The 30-second-long clip which is making the rounds on social media begins and ends with samples of "Whistle" by K-Pop girl group, Blackpink. Both Johnny Weir and fellow co-host Tara Lipinski then dance up a storm to the song.

“Whistle” is one of Blackpink’s two debut tracks, and it hit No. 2 on the World Digital Songs chart upon its release. The quartet, which features members from South Korea, Australia and Thailand, is extremely popular despite only having released five singles to their name; in their short lifespan, they’ve seen three songs top the World Digital Songs chart.

While still fairly new in the K-pop scene, Blackpink’s already gained much attention internationally; their hit “As If It's Your Last” appeared during one scene in Warner Bros. Justice League last year.

Blackpink's appearance marks one of multiple appearances of K-pop at the 2018 Games, and the first time it has been featured in an NBC ad.

When Johnny & Tara aren’t keeping us updated on the latest figure skating news, they’re dancing to K-Pop. Tune in to NBC for more figure skating coverage, presented by #GoogleHome. pic.twitter.com/uYg11Pv4Xc
