Guardians of the Galaxy.
Despite that almost no one had a clue of who the Guardians of the Galaxy were before, this Marvel project became widely popular overnight and turned into one of the company's best performing summer blockbusters.
In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy shows a unique perspective on the superhero genre. The movie has incorporated the same formula that worked out so well for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Avengers. Honestly, how could you not love this film?
Check out what the critics are saying!
Because the movie is opening up this corner of the universe more or less from scratch (other than Thanos, who appeared for all of 10 seconds in "The Avengers" credits), it's probably more over-stuffed than it needs to be, and the underuse of the Collector in particular is a waste. But the five Guardians are such a treat, and at least some of the supporting characters like Yondu (who bears almost no resemblance to the comic book version, but is so well conceived, and played by Michael Rooker, that it doesn't matter) come to vivid life, that the movie was tremendously satisfying, and one I look forward to watching many more times in the future.
In the end, Guardians of the Galaxy may be a mixed bag as a cinematic work, but it’s definitely another victory for Marvel Studios – which will likely be able to milk sequels and spinoffs galore out of what this film started. Marvel movie fans need to be wary that they’re getting something a little different from what they may be used to; but for anyone coming to this property as a blank slate, with little prior knowledge, Gunn and Co. have painted a fun defining portrait of who these Guardians of the Galaxy are: A band of pretty awesome (and lovable) A-holes.
Guardians of the Galaxy is an all ages, all tastes good time. It's light & tasty, a crazy fun space adventure which never takes itself too seriously, and delivers on the laughs and the action.
Bottom line: it's not perfect. There are parts that drag, some action sequences that aren't as strong as one might hope, and some puzzling/unexplained motivations. The good news is that there's time to fix these things and, even if they don't solve everything, it'll still be a lot of fun. No matter what, I will absolutely be in line to go see it opening day.
This film expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista.
